ENTER THE WORLD OF MS. KESSEL'S ART STUDIOS

Teaching Art Internationally

My Professional Mission:

To inspire my students to discover what ignites their passion, wonder and purpose in the world we live, and to provide them the support they need in order to explore and realize those inspirations.

I am a devoted teacher of visual art, with an unwavering belief in the essential role the arts have in the education of children of all ages. The visual arts provides students an opportunity to develop higher critical thinking and problem solving skills, reflect upon the cultures and traditions of past and present societies, and communicate and express themselves in ways that are both creative, challenging and contextual. Art class should inspire my students to achieve their best, both inside and outside of the classroom walls.

WHAT ARE MS. KESSEL'S CLASSES LIKE?

Ms. Kessel's classes encourage every unique child to discover the joy of creating and learning about art in their own individualized ways. Through creative projects that connect to the wider world and the inner world students of all ages learn to appreciate the amazing world of art and its importance in all of our lives.

WHO IS MS. KESSEL?

Maggie Kessel studied Fine Art and Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she also worked for the painter, Wilfredo Chiesa, as his studio assistant. She has a Masters in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from Montana State University in Bozeman, and a teaching license in Art K-12 from the state of Montana. She has made art and found joy in doing so for as long as she could pick up a pencil.

Her artwork is primarily portraiture of those who have special meaning in her life, or places and objects that have left their impression on her through her travels.

Ms. Kessel is a teacher that instantly connects with any student that she crosses paths with. She shows a true interest in getting to know the students individually and seeing the talent that each person has. What makes her so special is that the relationship she builds with the students expands farther than the connection that students have with normal teachers. Everyone in her class becomes this sort of family; we are all entirely different but are connected through the love we have for art.

Be it art history, artist biographies or simply the art of drawing hands, Ms. Kessel has used her creativity to inspire her students and has given me a learning experience that is unlike any other. She believes that everyone has a creative side and is capable of expressing it through art.

The Art of The Sketchbook

The intentional use of sketchbooks captures the subtleties of the evolution of artistic skills, historical connections and understandings and the exploration of materials in the arts.

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

Ms. Kessel gave me a completely different perspective towards the world of art. She taught me
that no matter what, you should always practice until you see enhancement in your work, and
indeed she was right. I improved my skills in art in every area. I think everyone deserves a chance to have her as a teacher because she leaves big marks on people and because it would be a journey that no one would ever forget.
